Cherry Hills Village Land Preserve

Mission Statement

The Cherry Hills Land Preserve is a citizen-based, non-governmental charitable organization whose mission is to preserve the rural character of Cherry Hills Village by preserving open lands and natural areas of significant scenic, environmental, historic, and recreational value.

To realize this mission, CHLP:

• Serves as a membership organization and voice for local citizens interested in land preservation.
• Promotes efforts to secure conservation easements and other significant open spaces.
• Raises funds and generates other resources to promote the acquisition, maintenance, and enhancement of parks, trails, open space, and historic sites.
• Serves to educate the public and to advocate for appropriate development and land protection measures.
• Serves as an advocate to local government for appropriate development and land protection measures that focus on open space of significant scenic, environmental, historic, and/or recreational value.
• Serves as a local land trust by holding, monitoring, and protecting local conservation easements.

Who we are

Since our inception in 2004, we have developed a membership of 350 people; we have initiated and expanded our education and advocacy programs; we have been active participants in city discussions concerning open space; and we have increased our organizational and fund raising capabilities. As a result, we can point to several significant achievements.

Our vision for the future

The activities and accomplishments of CHLP have enabled us to garner and maintain strong local support and, in 2008, we will work to sustain or surpass this effort. The Cherry Hills Land Preserve will continue to participate in the Master Planning Process to ensure inclusion of an Open Space Conservation Policy. We will continue to coordinate strategic meetings with landowners to discuss land preservation options. We will expand the History project fund raising and explore grants and other foundation funding opportunities. We will continue to partner with the City Council and City Commissions in activities that promote preservation and enhancement of open space. And we will continue expand our professional capabilities and expertise.
